Greer Gift Guide, Mother's Day Edition, Handful and Hustle's Favorite things

If there’s ever been a person who cared about your every little need as much as she cared for her own self, it was probably your mama. If there’s ever been a person that you admired for her relentless care and tenacious problem solving, maybe its your wife. Not everyone is blessed with these women in their lives, but for those of us who are, we are fast approaching the day we pause to attempt to let them know how much we appreciate them.

Greer Gift Guide-7.gif

My grandma never wanted to celebrate mother’s day, because she felt we should appreciate one another every day (and she had 7 children.) I do feel her sentiment- I strive to meet that goal- of being grateful and loving in all my relationships, on the daily. But a little extra loving, a day carved out where we make sure we really say it, surely can’t be a bad thing.

If you haven’t picked out a gift yet, I’ve got some great news: this post is for you. I visited 5 lovely local sources for great gifts. I had the pleasure of talking with the experts, and they had some amazing suggestions. Here’s some hand-picked favorite ideas. You can come to Greer and shop around a bit, or most of these places welcome a phone call to purchase something and have it put on hold for a quick and easy pick up! Don’t be afraid to ask for advice on selection or if they will wrap it for you- this is the kind of service you can expect from Handful and Hustle Favorites!

URBAN PETALS

Flowers and a custom pampering basket

My first stop had to be Urban Petals, because a beautiful fresh cut bouquet is such a perfect choice. Anna also has curated a gift bar of locally sourced handmade items- Lumineoux chocolate, cards, and pampering products like soap and bath salts that would be perfect for a custom gift basket. Her air plants caught my eye, and I love that muscle rub… just so many good options here. If you’d like a bouquet, definitely order it TODAY because they do sell out!

SOUTHERN ENVY

Turquoise Bowls from Turkey

My second selection, Kristine, at Southern Envy helped me pick out, although I’d been eyeing it since I stepped in her doorway. A beautiful one-of-a-kind bowl from Turkey in shades of turquoise is an elegant and versatile piece. Though she has a handful of this type of dish/bowl/cake plate in stock, each one really is unique. The shop is known for their customization and handmade items, and I actually found another gift that I just had to get for a mom friend of mine too. I ordered a custom decal for it, and I’ll swing by and pick it up next week. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so I’ll post an update to my Instagram stories with the finished gift!

SWEET TEA STATION

Hand-Poured Candle in a mini dough bowl

If you’ve never stopped into Sweet Tea Station but you love that farmhouse warmth and style, you NEED to run over there. They are famous for their hand-poured candles, with scents like fresh cotton, magnolia, & vanilla. These make great gifts, and this week they have a mother’s day gift basket give-away going on: you can enter your name every time you visit through May 6. There are plenty of other gifts to admire over here too!

PURE WELLNESS SPA

Pampering spa services

My first time into Pure Wellness Spa, I felt so welcome and at ease, and even refreshed by just the scents they have in the air. Their Facial and Massage package sounds like a for sure win for moms in any stage of life, or you could let her choose the service by giving a Pure Spa Gift Certificate. Kassie told me that when you purchase before Mother’s day, you can get 20% off. I love their slogan on the wall, “healthy body healthy mind.” You’re basically giving the gift of improved health, wellness, and natural beauty with whatever you choose from their list of offerings!

ABBOTT'S FROZEN CUSTARD

Peanut butter or Strawberry Pie

And that brings us to Abbott’s Frozen Custard! If I could share a local’s secret with you- combine a shot of espresso from Barista Alley next door with classic vanilla custard from Abbotts… heaven. That is a gift from heaven. Maybe take mom out for an early afternoon adffogato date next weekend, if she’s a craft coffee lover with a sweet tooth. (Anyone? Yes, please?) But a perfect option if you’re having a get-together would be a Peanut butter or Strawberry pie from Abbott’s. Amanda is gearing up for a record-breaking sell out on these delicious celebratory confections, based on previous year’s happenings, so definitely message them on fb or email ahopper@abbottscustard.com to lay claim to one and sign up for your pick up day. Again- please order these ahead! I think you’ll really appreciate the fresh strawberry slices because they’re beautiful and sweet.

HANDFUL AND HUSTLE

Iconic Family Artwork for your home

My last recommendation starts with a question- when was the last time you had a family portrait taken? If the answer is longer than 1 year, you might be overdue for a session with a photographer. I talk to a lot of moms, and one of the top things one their wish lists- I know I’m biased, but for real- one of the biggest desires they have is just for a nice family portrait. So hey! This can be as fancy as you want to make it- maybe you just initiate getting everyone together and in an iPhone photo. She would probably be excited about even that. But for those of you who want to go all in on making mom’s day- or year! What about hiring a professional, and commissioning a piece of artwork that becomes an iconic family heirloom in your clan? Please reach out to me with your questions and let’s get the ball rolling on taking care of your mama in this way. I’d love to work with you and thrill her with something she will never forget!

So there you have it- 6 women owned small businesses that are ready to get you set up to celebrate, and 6 solid recommendations on what to pick up. My siblings and I like to coordinate on getting a larger gift from all of us for our matriarch, and a group gift can work out beautifully, especially when you’ve got a knock-out list like this to work off! Mamas, if you’re the one reading this, you have my permission to forward the article to your people and tell them YOUR top picks!

And from Handful and Hustle, to all of you Mamas, have a happy mothers day counting your handful of blessings!
