Greer SC photography, new playground in Greer
3 year old Maverick visited Greer’s Century Park this morning. The weather was chilly but sunny and WINDY! There were very few other kids out on the playground at 9 am, but the little souls who braved the weather were obviously determined to enjoy the brand-new amenities.
There are so many fun things to do at this playground, but a clear favorite is the whimsical fairy tale tower. It really looks straight out of the story books, and is complete with ivy to climb, a spiral stair case, and even a dragon! I love this, because it sets kids’ imaginations on fire! I always think of a few quotes about fairy tales and dragons, and try to encourage a fearless bravery with my boys. We talk about doing hard things even when we’re scared and nervous, and having images in our heads that inspire us is so important! I am an extremely visual person, and life-giving truths I hang onto are often connected with a dramatic photo in my head. One of the things I love about my business is getting to create tangible illustrations for people that help them self-actualize. When we see this custom, intentional artwork on the wall, it helps us attain new levels of realizing the character, dreams, and goals that are important to us. Sometimes this is slaying dragons, sometimes its family values, or other times its achieving an identity as a professional or master of a new skill.

So even kid’s playtime can be a tool we use to help them be the people God put them in the world to be. This morning I got to see my tiny move towards kindness and courage as he tackled new challenges. I have a feeling this park will be formative in his growth and development in all kinds of areas, and maybe even in mine too.

The park is not officially opened yet- grand opening is scheduled for mid-April. As long as the entrances are not closed, you can walk right in and check it out for yourself!
